Paul, I really like this approach to Bible Study. I've used it many of the SS classes and the church leadership training classes that I've taught and Bible studies that I have written. I agree that testing one's individual interpretation of a passage against that of the group's will improve everyone's understanding of the text, but I have these questions. Since the text of the Scriptures were not initially composed and broken into chapters and verses, how can the group have get an adequate perception on the context of a text if they are only looking at a small selected part of it? Doesn't a grasp of the context require some input from the teacher/facilitator? I would appreciate your answers to these questions.

Is there any way that you could rip out one or two pages from your personal inductive bible studies and scan them into .pdf files and post them here? I am looking at this and you did a great job describing the process, but I'd still like to see what it looks like on paper, if possible.

God bless,
Steve

Do you suggest doing Bible study with non-believers in this same way? If not, how do you suggest doing Bible study with those who don't believe? Should obedience be stressed when you first start meeting to do Bible study with someone? Or should it become more of a factor only when that person becomes more serious about learning about Jesus?

David,
I've been hosting a gathering on Wednesday nights at my house for a couple of semester's now(i'm near a college campus). This semester we decided to try something new, while one person read's the set of scripture for the night(we're going through Colossians) another person is writing that passage. In the end, we share what is grabbing at us in those verses....

What you've shared here in the Inductive Bible Study proccess will fit in perfectly to what we are doing. Now I'll have everyone write the passage followed by the other two steps before we share. I'm so grateful that God has led me to read this post, thanks for sharing!
